Minnetonka Kitchen Water Damage Repair

George’s story is pretty typical. He walked into his kitchen to find water everywhere. He quickly found the leak under the sink and was able to turn off the water within 15 minutes of finding it. Despite George’s quick reaction, the water already covering his floor had done quite a bit of damage in his home.

He swiftly called our SERVPRO office in Minnetonka, and the response team arrived in less than two hours. George had to smile as he described the “fairly loud equipment” the team used, but he was very pleased with the results five days later when everything was dry. The Minnetonka office’s Operations Manager, Joe Hyland, then began detailing the actions they took on George’s behalf.

The leak, Joe pointed out, started when a line leading into the water filtration unit split from its connection. The leak first spilled water into the kitchen before it eventually spread back into the laundry room and then downstairs into the family room.

The laundry room floor had a vinyl cover over the sub-floor which is very common. Water had gotten underneath, and since vinyl does not breathe, Joe and his team removed it from the laundry room to dry the floor under it. They were also able to dry the drywall in the laundry room by removing the baseboard and using an air mover. They did not have to drill air holes in the wall to assist in drying.

The water had traveled from the kitchen down into the family room. As it did, it soaked the ceiling insulation and one wall. Joe’s team had to remove the drywall from these areas and remove the insulation where they dried it outside the home. They did have to drill holes in one wall to remove moisture from the drywall, however.

Joe’s team also had to pull up the carpet in the family room and remove the pad underneath. They disinfected and dried the carpet before replacing the pad and then stretched the carpet back in place. Now that the family room is completely dry, Joe says it is now ready for build back.
